“It is easy to call our soldiers heroes and superhumans, and therefore assume that they do not need our help. But they are made of the same vulnerable flesh and blood as we are,” British neurosurgeon Henry Marsh told UCU benefactors. Renowned British neurosurgeon, author, and long-time friend of Ukraine, Henry Marsh, recently visited the UCU Medical Clinic for the first time.
Professor Marsh has visited the Ukrainian Catholic University on numerous occasions to express his solidarity with and support for Ukrainians. Earlier this April, he took part in a charity evening at London’s Savile Club, organised by UCU to support Ukrainian veterans. The event raised funds for the Veteran+ programme at the UCU Medical Clinic, which provides long-term care and support to veterans as they reintegrate into civilian life.
During his visit to the clinic, Professor Marsh had an opportunity to see first-hand how veterans undergo rehabilitation and to meet the Medical Clinic team. He was particularly interested in learning about the injuries sustained by wounded Ukrainian service members and the importance of providing long-term, comprehensive healthcare for veterans.
“Many people enter military service already facing health problems. Conditions on the front line are extremely difficult, and soldiers often remain there for months or even years. As a result, their overall health deteriorates significantly. This is why so many veterans require comprehensive and long-term healthcare support,” said Henry Marsh.
Recently, Professor Marsh became an ambassador for the UCU Medical Clinic. He actively supports the Veteran+ programme and helps raise funds for its further development. As an internationally respected voice in medicine, Professor Marsh continues to advocate for Ukraine and support those affected by the war.
“You have a wonderful new clinic, and it is important that you are using it to support veterans while seeking opportunities to expand the Veteran+ programme. I will certainly do everything I can to help you in this effort,” Professor Marsh said.
During his visit, he also met with the clinic’s doctors and staff and signed copies of his books to commemorate his first visit to the UCU Medical Clinic.
